The Open Steno Community Survey is a yearly census conducted within the community, typically through Google Forms and distributed via Discord or other community channels.
Community developers for Plover, hardware, software, and more use the results to understand the needs of the community and gain direction for future improvements and features.

2022 Mid-Year
In response to rapid changes, a second survey was conducted in 2022, starting July 10. There were 83 responses.
The Uni jumped ahead as the most used hobbyist writer in 2022.
2023
No survey was conducted in 2023.
2024
A total of 101 respondents reported on their steno background, usage, learning, hardware, and software, starting June 22, 2024.
Lapwing theory made its mark, with 35.3% of respondents reporting using it, and the Uni and the Ecosteno were the most used hobbyist keyboards.
