The Stenoob is a hobbyist steno writer made in the shape of the standard stenotype keyboard.
Use with Plover
Stenoob has support for Gemini PR and TX Bolt protocols. Stenoob does not currently support Javelin.

Physical Features
The Stenoob is designed to be "true to size" with a standard stenotype keyboard in key layout and shape. The keytops are 3-D printed to emulate keys on a lever machine, and the asterisk and -DZ keys are printed in the "wide" configuration.
Since there are no stabilizers on the number bar key, it can take a lot of force or bend when pressed.
Key weight is one of the heaviest among hobbyist writers, which may create strain over long writing periods.
History
The original Stenoob was sold on Etsy as a moving practice board, with no actual functionality or connection.
The Stenoob Pro 2 came out in 2025 with functionality for connecting to computer for use over the Gemini PR protocol. The switches were Gateron Reds 45g, which received criticism for their loud sound and heavy additive force required to actuate.
The Stenoob Pro 3 came out shortly after. The main update was addition of support for the TX Bolt protocol. Stenoob began transitioning from Etsy to their own website.
The Stenoob Pro 4 came out in mid 2026. The switches were updated to Gateron KS-33 38g, which represented an upgrade to low-profile switches with a quieter sound. Keycaps were accordingly updated.
Set-up
Instructions for setting up the Stenoob are located at the documentation. Stenoob also offers an in-browser demonstration called Stenoob Lab, supported in Chrome.
